Well HAPPY NEW YEARS to everyone out there. As is custom in many parts of the world, today begins the day when thousands decide to get off the couch and hit the gym in hopes of losing a few of those Christmas pounds and start getting ready for Summer.
Despite the fact that my New Year's resolution was to have a more positive outlook on life and try to be happier/nacier to all those around me, please give me this one second to rant. DO YOU KNOW HOW FRUSTERATING IT IS TO GO THE GYM THAT IS NORMALLY EMPTY AND HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE TREADMILL BECAUSE PEOPLE CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO WORK IT!!!!!
There...I'm done...ANYwhoo, my year has begun with setting my actual running mile time starting point. beforehand, I was speed-walking/running all my times, but I though to myself last night "Self, how fast canb we run the mile? We used to run it around 9-10min way back in the day when we were a little more active, but a whole lot heavier. i think we should try and see tomorrow."
So you know how hard it is to ignore the inner angels and demons debating on your shoulders so today I actually set my time. It's...well it's...ummm...maybe I forgot already....okay it was 12:34. Before you judge, I haven't really ran steadily in a LONG LONG LONG time. And despite the fact that I have been walking/jogging for a few days, doesn't mean I can go run a 5K and lead the race today.
However, this is good on one hand (see, I'm being positive already :-) ) because it tells me how in shape I am and gives me an indicator of my performance as I continue down this path of health and wellness. If I continue working out as I have been, I can only improve and become faster so maybe 12:34 isn't as bad as you would normally think.
I dont know if it was the drinking the water before I began full out running (which I normally never due as it makes me sick), but I started feeling sick about six minutes into the run. (I know...I'm a dork) It may contribute to how long the run actually took as I walked for about three minutes of it to get the quesy feeling to go away, but who knows??? I'll try again at the end of the week. once more and see if we can get a better reading of my actual time.
For the most part, I spent today weight lifting. Mostly leg exercises, some arm, but I think I might have tendonitis back in my elbow again, or else just pulled it the first night I wanted to be all macho and rip out 25 reps of 65 lbs when I hadn't been lifting in over a year. Stupid, yes I know, but hey...I'm entitled. Its my right as an American :-P
Well, now that I'm showered, dressed, and ready for work, I must depart for the day. We must once more wage war again the dreaded concession stand and its band of merry misfits that are intent on destroying the dreams of healthy lifestyles for all of our movie-going patrons. Wish me luck and with any hope, we will still stay under the goal of 1800 calories for today. So far...-163 :-)
